About Hipchecks

A girl who loves hockey, hipchecks, and all things goalies (except our own).

Current player obsession: Petr Prucha. Pruuuuuuu!

I grew up in Wisconsin and then smartened up & moved to Phoenix for the weather. I hate snow and ice. Unless it's hockey ice.

I love being able to watch hockey in 90 degree weather. Fan-freaking-tatic! Unless you try wearing a jersey in 90 degree weather.

I have the best of both worlds.

I also love music and marry my two obsessions. I try making song lyrics/titles part of every blog post and sometimes make up songs about hockey.

Round 1, Game 1: Detroit at Phoenix E-mail

Last night was the first Whiteout at the job (and sorry penguins fans, we own the rights. we did not copy you). I wasn't at the game but even watching the 3tv broadcast, you could just feel the energy!

Strader and Nash (taken with my cell phone of the tv - hence the crappy quality)

The crowd was loud and proud. I could hear the "Let's Go Coyotes" chant clearly. I heard them taunting Howard in the third. I heard them booing the refs. They waved their snakes in the air.

Taken by my friend at the game.

The game did not start off that great. The boys looked nervous. They weren't playing their game. Bryz let in an early, soft goal. We're doomed! Oh wait, we're not doomed! We have a power play! Did we have this all along and Tippett was just saving it or were the hockey gods smiling upon us? We went 3 for 4 on the power play.

After the first Coyotes goal, a snake fell from the sky:

There is a mother effin snake on the mother effin ice! (to semi-quote Samuel L Jackson, where is Gabe when I need him? Cobra Starship needs to do a song!)

Anyway, the Coyotes won 3-2. Some notes:

  • Doan had 9 hits. He got a penalty on one (charging) but it didn't look like he left his feet. It looked clean to me.
  • Prucha had 4 hits. My lil Pru hit 4 Red Wings! Yay! He also was all over the ice, chasing the puck like a mad man. He may not have gotten a shot on goal but he contributed in so many other ways.
  • Yandle played amazing. He also looks good in a pink shirt with a darker pink tie. They kept showing him and DMo walking in (PS He has finally moved out of DMo's house)
  • Wolski and DMo got some great goals.
  • Jovo hustled. Yes, you read that right...
  • Apparently this win was an upset. Even though we were the 4th seed (3rd if you get rid of that Division leader crap) and Detroit was 5th. Whatever. I knew we would beat them.
I had more that I wanted to write but I am exhausted. Game 2 is tomorrow night. Coyotes have already put game 1 behind them. They were so calm in their post-game interviews.
I am excited though, we asked to wear coyotes jerseys/apparel to work tomorrow and we got the ok. I am debating between the red Pru or a black long sleeve shirt I have that says "Property of the Coyotes"
